The Defense Verification page allows you to verify the claim or claim line(s) selected for defense for the listed case ID, along with the defense type applied to the claims. This page also shows the date the MSP record was accepted by CMS. You can also use this page to upload supporting documentation for your defense. Note: You must upload at least one document in support of your defense.
This page lists the following information (read only) for claim or claim lines included in the defense request:
- Claim Control Number
The first eight characters are masked with an asterisk if you are not logged in using multi-factor authentication (MFA). - Claim Line Number ("0" is used for Part A claims)
- First Date of Service
Displays for MFA users only. - Last Date of Service
Displays for MFA users only. - Billed Amount
- Medicare Paid Amount
Note: Part A claims are shown first, followed by Part B claim lines. Rows are displayed in ascending order by the first date of service for Part A claims. For Part B claim lines, rows are shown in ascending order by the first date of service, and then by claim control number and claim line number.
Click the What Is This? link to open the Defense Supporting Information and Documentation page. You can use this page to review the requirements for documentation that must be submitted in support of your defense.
Click the Upload Documentation link to open the Defense Documentation Upload page and begin the process of uploading your supporting documentation. You may upload up to five documents at a time in support of your defense. Once you upload your document(s), they will be listed at the bottom of the Defense Verification page.
Note: Only documentation for the selected defense type should be uploaded. To ensure proper handling, requests for other types of defense must be submitted by returning to the Defense Submission page, selecting the applicable defense type, and uploading the related documentation.
Click the Delete link to delete any documents you do not want uploaded.
Click Previous to return to the previous page to make updates on your defense submission.
Note: If you click Previous and return to the Defense Submission page, any documents that you uploaded will remain in your uploaded list unless you delete them or cancel your defense submission.
Click Cancel to return to the Case Information page without saving any of your changes.
Click Continue to submit your defense. The Defense Submission Confirmation page will open, confirming your defense submission was successful. This button is only enabled when there is at least one uploaded document listed.
